Dua Lipa is closing the door on her breakthrough year and opening another to what looks like continued success by earning the most nominations at this year’s BRIT Awards. With five nominations under her belt, she’s one ahead of the planet-shagging Ed Sheeran.

The ‘New Rules’ hitmaker has been nominated in the British Female Solo Artist, Breakthrough Act, Single and Video categories, and, most importantly, British Album of the Year. Snapping at her heels is Ed Sheeran. He’s been nominated for Best British Male Solo Artist, Best Video and Single (both for ‘Shape of You’) and British Album of the Year for the ubiquitous ÷, the UK biggest-selling album of 2017.

Elsewhere, ‘Human’ singer Rag’n’Bone man – the winner of last year’s Best British Breakthrough Act – has been nominated three times, as has rapper J Hus.

Lipa is up against Jessie Ware, Kate Tempest, Laura Marling and Paloma Faith for the Female Solo Artist gong, an award that Marling and Faith took home in 2011 and 2015 respectively. Sheeran is facing competition from the newly solo Liam Gallagher, Stormzy, Loyle Carner and Rag’n’Bone Man. Liam Gallagher must be laughing his socks off that brother Noel hasn’t been nominated in a single category.

The race for British Group is a five way competition between Gorillaz, London Grammar, Royal Blood, Wolf Alice and The xx.

Elsewhere, Foo Fighters – who have been confirmed to play on the night – are pitched against Arcade Fire, Haim, The Killers and LCD Soundsystem in the International Group category.
