Now here’s a team-up that should liven up the run-up to Christmas – The Charlatans and James have announced a joint UK arena tour for December.

Readers with long memories will recall that the two heavyweights first played together at a gig at the Liverpool Arena in 2016. This time, the lucky cities being visited by these veterans include Glasgow, London, Manchester and Leeds.

And to get you in the mood, James have also shared the live video for ‘Hank’, which is taken from the band’s forthcoming album, Living In Extraordinary Times. Released on 3 August, their 15th (!) studio album has been produced by Mercury and Brit Award winner Charlie Andrew, whose previous work includes alt-J and Wolf Alice.

But yes… the video. Filmed live at the Victoria Theatre in Halifax, James are seen moving into a quasi-industrial area with heavy percussion, pounding bass and an increasing sense of dread. All of this is then highlighted as Tim Booth sings, “White fascists in the white house/More beetroot in your Russian stew” and “A jester prancing like a fool/In jest digest the monster/This president’s a dangerous tool…”

Check it out here…

Speaking of the upcoming tour, Tim Booth said: “Playing with The Charlatans felt like a joyful fit to those of us lucky enough to be present. And besides how often do I get to hang with another Tim who meditates! We want two simpatico bands to be even greater than the sum of their parts to create a magical evening.”

The Charlatans’ Tim Burgess added: "We played a show together in Liverpool and said it was a "one night only" but both bands loved it so much we couldn't resist making it into a tour. Very excited to be catching up with the James fam at the end of the year.”

James and The Charlatans play:

07 – London, Wembley Arena
