Sharon Van Etten is set to return on 19 January with Remind Me Tomorrow – her first new album since 2014’s Are We There – and as a heads-up she’s shared the lead track ‘Comeback Kid’, which you can listen to here.

Not that she hasn’t been busy since we last heard from her. Not only has Sharon Van Etten been transforming herself from a purveyor of fine acoustic balladry into bona-fide rock star, she has also acted in the Netflix series The OA, played in the final season of David Lynch’s revived Twin Peaks, had a baby, penned a movie score, re-mastered and re-released her debut album and studied for a psychology degree.

For Remind Me Tomorrow, Van Etten has turned to celebrated producer John Congleton, whose previous work includes production credits for artists as diverse as Black Mountain, Explosions In The Sky and St Vincent. The new album sees her eschewing the guitar in favour of keyboards and synths and, judging by ‘Comeback Kid’, the results should be worth waiting for.

‘Comeback Kid’ is driven by some considerable rhythmic bounce and propulsive synths and is a track that soon burrows its way into your inner ear. It’s certainly a step away from the music with which she’s made her name, but this is no bad thing. Indeed, the whole thing flies by so don’t be too surprised when you find yourself hitting the repeat button more than once…

Remind Me Tomorrow tracklist is:

01. I Told You Everything
02. No One’s Easy To Love
03. Memorial Day
04. Comeback Kid
05. Jupiter 4
06. Seventeen
07. Malibu
08. You Shadow
09. Hands
10. Stay
