Buy Tickets To The Smashing Pumpkins 2019

Huffy 90s frontman Billy Corgan has floated the idea of recording a festive LP, in part to keep Smashing Pumpkins current momentum going, but also, genuinely, so Santa has something even shittier than coal to put in naughty kids’ stockings.

The merry yuletide sprite himself was chatting to the press this week about the group’s plans, now they’ve finally got around to releasing their (whisper it) really quite good Shiny And Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun.

"We're already talking about tour stuff for next year, so there will be more Pumpkins shows in 2019,” Corgan told USA Today in his characteristically rich, soothing baritone.

“But for me, once we get off tour, I'm either going to be doing some writing in L.A. with some friends or going back to Chicago to start writing new Smashing Pumpkins.

“I also have an inkling to try and get us to do a Christmas record one day, so I might try to use the Christmas spirit to put the record together in concept, even if we're not ready to record it."

And in case you’re wondering what Corgan singing a Christmas tune sounds like, as luck would have it he already did one 21 years ago…

Can’t see that knocking Noddy Holder off the radio any time soon, but whatever.

Some songs on this putative new Christmas record would be covers, and, on the whole “…it would be probably lean more acoustic.

"When I think Christmas music, I tend to think something you want to put on and sit around the tree with the kids and not rock out to," he notes. And then, demonstrating his evergreen gift for guileless self parody, this absolute gem:

“I don't see us doing a rocking-out Christmas album."
