With the likes of Broken Social Scene, Four Tet, and Just Mustard billed, it's of the most essential festivals of 2019

Four Tet, Father John Misty, Idles and Sharon Van Etten are among the big names for Green Man 2019, the festival held in the beautiful Brecon Beacons that ends with the ritualistic burning of the huge Green Man.

Canada’s The National-in-waiting Broken Social Scene, boho favourites Whitney, and our number 5 album of the year artist TVAM are also stand outs. It's been a great week for a new grunge band from Ireland called Just Mustard who are booked to support The Cure in Dublin and can now announce Green Man. Wales' own audiobooks, Squid, and Sons of Kemet also stand out on a line-up of stand outs.

From the new bands on there, there's not much on here that hasn't been heaped with critical praise online, in print or on radio over the past year; but there are a few: the bookings of the incredible Grimm Grimm and LA folk duo Mapache indicate an ability to find cult acts who aren't necessarily the darlings of the press and likely to be a discovery for many people braving the chance of rain and camping all weekend.

In terms of atmopshere, Green Man is a real winner. It's fast become festival of choice for music fans who favour more alternative sounds and plays an active role in the industry. If a band has a strong Green Man set they can often go on and do bigger things. The Green Man rising compeition is indicative of this, as is a dig through past line-ups and seeing who's in the small print and where they are now.
