Two Door Cinema Club have - literally - launched into space. They didn’t just reveal the album artwork, they sent the album cover into the atmosphere. False Alarm is due to land on 14 June via Prolifica Inc / [PIAS].
These innovative lads have also debuted their new single, the aptly named ‘Satellite’, which sounds just as futuristic as their promo campaign, with smatterings of krautpop influences on their classic pop sound. The track aims to bring everyone together - as the human race, we’re “in it together” - whether it’s Brexit, or other man-made modern disasters such as climate change. The band launched details of the ‘Satellite’ release in a contemporary and tech-savvy manner, through live streaming the launch of the album above the clouds, complete with commentary from the band and a Q&A session from fans.
The new record warps and blends elements of future pop, disco, rock and soul. Across its 10 tracks, the record satirises the social media landscape we all battle with daily, and documents the environmental woes that are so 2019. The band marked their planetary potential by having their first single from the album played on Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in the World.
Recorded in sessions between London and LA with producer Jacknife Lee (U2, REM, The Killers), Alex says of the record, “I love the pop thing, I love experimenting and going to different places, I love doing things that are a little bit wonky and I love the idea of doing something we haven’t done before, why can’t we do all of those things at once? That’s what it was, doing whatever felt right… It sounds like Two Door Cinema Club – not a Two Door Cinema Club there’d ever been before but that’s what I love. We can always do something new but it always feels like something we’ve done.”
