Bruce Springsteen is returning with his first studio album in five years, in the form of Western Stars. Recorded primarily at Springsteen’s home studio in New Jersey, his 19th album will see his sound explore new territory. It will be released 14 June via Columbia, and available for preorder on Friday 26.
Drawing inspiration in part from the Southern California pop records of the late 60s and early 70s, the 13 tracks on Western Stars encompass “a sweeping range of American themes, of highways and desert spaces, of isolation and community and the permanence of home and hope.”
Mixed by 13-time Grammy winner Tom Elmhirst, the album is laden with special guests such as, Patti Scialfa, early E Street Band member David Sancious, Charlie Giordano, Soozie Tyrell and more. Of the album, Springsteen comments, “This record is a return to my solo recordings featuring character driven songs and sweeping, cinematic orchestral arrangements. It’s a jewel box of a record."
All songs are written by Springsteen, whose 40 year long recording career has garnered 20 Grammy’s, an Oscar and a Tony, alongside a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.
