Liam Gallagher has this morning (31 May) confirmed the title of his eagerly anticipated follow up to debut solo album As You Were. After seemingly confirming the title in an exchange with fans on Twitter, we’ve now learnt that LG’s second record will be called Why Me? Why Not, due for release later this year.

Speaking about the record, Liams says, “It’s a better record than As You Were, which is saying something, as that was epic, wasn’t it?”

The singer debuted a snippet of the first song, to be taken from Why Me? Why Not. on his Instagram yesterday. Titled ‘Shockwave’, the clip can be seen below:

Coming out next Friday (7 June), the track has already picked up Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Who and T-Rex comparisons with jagged guitars and jolting drums, but as Liam’s unmistakable Mancunian lilt shines through on the vocal, ‘Shockwave’ is quintessentially his as he delivers the line, “You sold me right down the river, you had to hold me back, you could’ve looked for the sunshine, but you had to paint the whole thing black.”

‘Shockwave’ is the product of another collaboration with two of the writers instrumental in the success of As You Were - Andrew Wyatt and Greg Kurstin - and was recorded in Los Angeles and West London’s RAK studios, with Kurstin at the helm of production.

Speaking about the comeback Liam comments, “I’m buzzing. Buzzing to be alive, buzzing to be making tunes, raring to go. It’s nice to be back with some new music because it means I can get out there, play some gigs and give some people some stick because that is what I do. Let’s face it, it’s boring without me.”

And if that wasn’t enough, the singer has also announced details of a special, one-off underplay in Hackney next week. Liam will perform in the illustrious setting of Hackney Round Chapel on 5 June. To be in with a chance of nabbing tickets, head to this very link here.
