Noel Gallagher's latest cut with his band The High Flying Birds 'Rattling Rose' suggests his ability to create evocative, atmospheric, and heartfelt music is very much intact. The track ought to soundtrack a scene in a film where an acid trip's gone wrong with the line "She took a trip on the mothership and never came home" one of the most memorable Noel sings. Gallagher's delivery is typically assured yet there's an air of vulnerability to his melody that suits the rest of the instrumentation. In the detailed, multi-layered mix, a mid-tempo bass hook underpinned by a steady drum beat propels it along; yet the hazy, esoteric electronic ornamentation gives it a lot of depth and repeat value.
'Rattling Rose', released with an accompanying lyric video which you can tune into below, follows the pulsing Chic-esque disco feel of the band's last single 'Black Star Dancing'. A tune well worth plugging into for its brief yet mouthwatering strat solo.
The two recent tracks made available online for streaming come ahead of the release of a physical release: the Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds EP Black Star Dancing comes out on 12" vinyl on 14 June, which is the day they headline Isle Of Wight festival. It's their first new material since the 2017 album Who Built The Moon?
