More about:

Southbank Centre have announced the inimitable Grace Jones as curator and headliner for its 2020 edition of Meltdown Festival. The music, fashion, art and film heavyweight will join a long line of prestigious curators in sculpting the award-winning event.

Jones is in extraordinary company as a curator of Meltdown: last year, disco icon Nile Rodgers took the helm, while previous years saw Patti Smith, David Bowie and Robert Smith do the honours.

Taking place across ten days from 12 to 21 June in 2020, Meltdown will host a playbook of Jones' inspirations and fancies, alongside people who have in turn been inspired by her.

We're expecting a lot of brand new names to get into, and will be taking note of every act that Jones will hereto announce (expect line-up announcements early next year).

On the announcement, Jones said: “I am honoured to be curating next year’s Meltdown festival. Year after year, the festival continues to spread its colourful wings, allowing its curators to bring together an array of diverse talent not seen anywhere else. It’s about time I was asked to curate Meltdown darling, don’t you think?!”

Head of Contemporary Music at Southbank Centre Bengi Ünsal noted that Jones had had a personal effect on her life growing up, and that she was "truly honoured" to welcome the icon to curate the festival.

Grace Jones played Meltdown back in 2007 under Jarvis Cocker's curation.

Meltdown Festival will take place at Southbank Centre on 12-21 June 2020.
