More about:

The BRITs have named the three-person shortlist for its newly-rebranded Rising Star award. Previously Critics' Choice, the prize will go to either Beabadoobee, Celeste or Joy Crookes next February.

With the voice of an old soul, a duet with Paul Weller and support slots for Michael Kiwanuka and Neneh Cherry ticked off, Celeste is already proving to be a real success story.

Beabadoobee takes care of the indie-pop side of things with clever bedroom pop tunes that have had millions of streams from her strongly Generation Z fanbase.

Joy Crookes is a jazz-inspired pop star with extraordinary live show power. In a live review of her performance at EartH earlier this month, we said "big tings are coming."

Beabadoobee said that she's "grateful" for the nomination, adding that "it’s so weird to think that writing music in my bedroom could appeal to so many people."

Celeste shared her earliest memory of the BRITs, saying that, at eight years old, "MissTeeq were the women I wanted to be when I grew up."

Joy Crookes also remembered watching the TV ceremony, noting "Lily Allen, Corinne Bailey Rae and Amy Winehouse" as stand-out performances. "To be recognised in the same way they were is insane."

Last year, the Critics' Choice Award (now Rising Star) went to Sam Fender. Previous winners have included Adele, Sam Smith and Florence + The Machine.

The winner of the Rising Star Award will be announced on 6 February 2020, with the live televised awards show broadcasting on ITV on 18 February 2020.
