More about: Lana Del Rey
Lana Del Rey continues her mission to sing as many songs about summer as is humanly possible: this time as a cover of Gershwin's 1934 composition 'Summertime', which informed Sublime's 'Doin' Time' - a track Lana also covered.
Lana's version is a sultry blend of Gershwin's original heady writing and the Californian slacker vibe of Sublime. It's a fantastic project for Lana, whose persona is glamour through the ages: an anachronistic since of iconography.
The cover is to raise money and support for the New York Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Philharmonic after both lost out greatly to the Covid pandemic. She has also donated money of her own to the cause.
“We’re incredibly grateful for Lana Del Rey’s support and for her drawing attention to the challenges arts organizations have faced over the past several months,” said Chad Smith, Chief Executive Officer of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Not a part of her forthcoming album Chemtrails Over The Country Club, Lana has also shared a cover of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' in recent weeks for use in a documentary about Liverpool FC.
So far, the only slice of the new LP is 'Let Me Love You Like A Woman', released in October.
