More about: beabadoobee
Indie’s newest star beabadoobee is back with her first single since the release of her acclaimed debut album Fake It Flowers. ‘Last Day On Earth’ was written at the beginning of the UK’s first lockdown, and reflects on what she would have done if she knew what was ahead. The single comes with the announcement of her upcoming EP, Our Extended Play, arriving later this spring. The EP was written and produced in collaboration with label mates Matty Healy and George Daniel of The 1975.
Here, Beabadoobee takes simple guitar riffs and soft vocals to give you a track that will transport you right back to your last night out before the pandemic hit. A year on from the first lockdown, Beabadoobee taps into the complex emotions that we’re all feeling on ‘Last Day On Earth’.
Speaking about its meaning, she explains:“Last Day On Earth is about all the things I would have done had I known we were going into a lockdown and the world was going to change the way it has. It was written shortly after the first main lockdown and lyrically it’s me reflecting on how it would feel if we all knew ahead of time what was going to happen. All the things I would have done if I knew it was the last day of our old normality.”
The upcoming EP was written and recorded on a farm in the Oxfordshire countryside with Healy, Daniel and her band:
“It was really nice being able to create together, my first time writing and recording on a farm. I wanted to experiment on the sounds and sonics even more and the EP to me has a feeling of togetherness to it... how we’re all in this joined as one”
Our Extended Play is out this spring.
