Oliva Dean has just released her first new music of the year with ‘Be My Own Boyfriend’, an uplifting ode to independence and self-love. The single comes with the news of the singer’s third EP Growth which will be released this summer on AMF Records.

Soulful and reflective, ‘Be My Own Boyfriend’ moves on from the themes of breakup that were found on her last EP and looks instead towards self-love and being happy within yourself. As her moving vocals are accompanied by gentle strings and backing vocals, ‘Be My Own Boyfriend’ sounds like a better fairy tale than any Prince Charming story.

Here, Olivia Dean explains the introspective new song:

"It’s a very societal thing that you’re always looking for your Prince Charming or that when you meet this person that you’ll be ‘whole’ or ‘successful’, like that’s the end goal. But I think the end goal is being happy by yourself, and if you do meet someone then it's a really cute accessory - a cute addition to my life, but it’s not completing my life. It’s not the whole look, he’s just the bag!”
