Visceral and assured, we can’t believe it’s only her second single

More about:

Raised in Woodstock, Jayla Kai brings her hometown spirit into each note of her music, it’s a central part of her, and has allowed her to create the music she does today.

Taken from her debut EP Epitome (releasing 16 July), ‘Apple Tree’ shows Jayla Kai as a force to be reckoned with. Her style of grungey indie-rock feels perfectly honed, it’s instinctive poetry, lyrically phenomenal and instrumentally powerful.

On ‘Apple Tree’, Jayla has said:

“Apple Tree’ is a product of Liz Phair, Fiona Apple and my own angst. Calling something angsty can be used so dismissively, but the qualities of artists and people who are considered angsty—putting yourself and your emotions out in the world, having self-confidence to do so, being brashly honest and saying what other people won’t—are really admirable. That is something I want to emulate and it’s what inspired ‘Apple Tree’”

Epitome Tracklist:

1. I Can’t Lie
2. Apple Tree
3. Paperread
4. Anthropology
5. Home Town

Epitome arrives 16 July via Everybody’s music.
