More about:

Premiered as Annie Mac’s ‘Hottest Record In the World’ last night, there is no track more deserving of that title than ‘Tears of a Crown’ - Joel Culpepper's latest.

Working on this track with the incredible producers Swindle and Guy Chambers, the track came together as a collision of brilliant ideas all leading into the track as we know it. Citing inspirations such as Isaac Hayes and Smokey Robinson, this track is a beautiful culmination of ideas and sounds that made Joel into who he is today.

With this single comes more news surrounding his long awaited second album, Sgt Culpepper. Featuring production collaborations with the likes of Tom Misch, Kay Young, and Jimmy Hogarth, the results of this are yet to be heard, but there’s no doubt in my mind that they’ll be phenomenal.

On the single, Joel has said:

"This song was originally an intro to the album. Myself and Swindle felt we only needed a taste of this to start the album, but Guy Chambers was adamant it was a full song. He organised another full studio day for us to get it right. Swindle and I reluctantly agreed and went through the motions thinking we would just revert it back to an intro after. Guy started the song again from scratch, and suddenly me and Swindle were schooled in how to finish the song. He could see on our faces that he had got it right, clapped and said “now we have a song!”
