More about: Lola Wild
London-based indie duo Lola Wild have released their Strange Shapes EP today, along with a music video for their new single ‘Second Hand Love’, starring vocalist Sian Barnett in multiple roles in a 1950s setting.
Pairing an old-Hollywood sound with lyrics that reflect very modern anxieties, ‘Second Hand Love’ is very quick to draw you in. The music video captures the aesthetic of the golden age of film, blurring the lines between animation and reality with visual effects. The rest of the EP follows this narrative, with each song sounding at home just as much on playlists as on old film soundtracks.
Here’s what multi-instrumentalist George Godfrey said about the sound on their new EP:
“I came up with the core of the song just hours after Sian and I first met and discussed putting the band together. We had been sitting outside a pub in Dalston, talking about artists like Billie Holiday, Nick Cave, Angel Olsen and Beach House… and we immediately had a clear vision for the direction the music should take. I came up with the bassline in my head whilst on the bus, before even getting home. I then sent Sian that first demo the next day and we had our first song more or less done by the weekend.”
Lola Wild’s Strange Shapes EP is out now.
