And in other capitalism is evil news - The Leadmill is being threatened with closure. After opening in the 80s, Sheffield’s music scene has centred around the iconic venue, but apparently that's not enough for the landlord…

A true institution, The Leadmill hosted some of the first gigs of Sheffield icons like Arctic Monkeys and Pulp. Never faltering in its commitment to new music and good vibes, everyone in the city has a story of a great Leadmill night or a new band they discovered there. With its neon lights shining in the dark, it's impossible to imagine the sheffield skyline without it and the threat that it could be gone is devastating.

Releasing a statement across their socials, the venue said:

“Today we have received some devastating news that in 1 year’s time, our Landlord is trying to evict us, forcing us to close.

Since 1980 The Leadmill has spent millions of pounds on what was a derelict warehouse, transforming it into one of the U.K’s most respected venues where countless acts from across the globe have performed over the years.

Please show your support by sharing this news & sharing your best memories that we can gather to help show them reasons why #WeCantLoseLeadmill.”

Following some incredible harsh years for music institutions, it’s time to rally round one of our greatest.
