More about:

Confidence Man’s TILT is a bridge between dancefloors—New York ballrooms, Berlin nightclubs and warehouse raves. The Aussie foursome’s second album—like 2018 debut Confident Music For Confident People—is a self-penned and produced electro pop romp through a span of interstellar disco, dance and electronic hallmarks, tantalising hooks and party positivity.

Drawing on a pool of diverse influences from Grace Jones, Madonna, Deee-Lite and The Chemical Brothers as well as cues from Italo Disco and Balearic House, Confidence Man is formed of sibling front-duo Janet Planet and Sugar Bones with Clarence McGuffie and Reggie Goodchild.

TILT begins with 'Woman', part female manifesto, part nineties clubland. Released as the album’s third single to coincide with International Woman’s Day, it's now playing an additional role in capably introducing Confidence Man to the uninitiated. There are further directives of feminist autonomy on 'Break It Bought It' (“You're in my house, so keep your hands to yourself”) and vented frustrations on 'Angry Girl'.

The album also feels like a call to action after two years that did nightlife no favours, with tracks like 'Feels Like a Different Thing' acting as missives for hedonist abandon. 'Holiday' is pre-packaged for summer festivals with the groups’ Glastonbury appearance surely unmissable for anybody inclined to a hot and heavy boogie.

Confidence Man ramp up the sexiness on the UK Garage reminiscent 'Toy Boy' and the mesmerisingly erotic 'Push It Up'. The playful 'What I Like' features cowbells and creative self-sampling whilst Clarence and Reggie take centre stage on the brass-infused instrumental 'Trumpet Song'. 'Kiss N Tell', clocking in at under a minute, has strong Latin infusions, and the arhythmic 'Luvin U Is Easy' is bouncy and ethereal.

There’s even time for a bit of the French language in ‘Relieve the Pressure’, albeit tongue in cheek in nature with deliberate mistranslations and bizarre idioms like a disco Foux du Fafa.

Sleek, sexy and banger-loaded, TILT is an affirming and exceptional record ready in time for an ostensibly virus-free and dance-heavy summer.

TILT arrives 1 April via Heavenly Recordings.
