After over a decade in an abusive conservatorship that controlled her every move, and the lengthy battle it took to escape it, we wondered if Britney Spears would ever want to make music again (and let’s face it, we’d all understand if she didn’t).

But today that question has been answered with the pop icon’s first new music in 6 years. Today, she teamed up with Sir Elton John himself to share ‘Hold Me Closer’, their reworking of Elton’s classic ‘Tiny Dancer’.

Here’s what Britney said about the dance-fuelled new song:

“I was so honored when the incredible Sir Elton John asked me to join him on one his most iconic songs. We are so excited for the fans to hear it! Thank you, Elton, for having me! I am so grateful that I got the opportunity to work with you and your legendary mind.” 

May ‘Hold Me Closer’ be the start of Britney doing whatever the hell she wants.
