Another incredible collab

Throughout 2022 Drugdealer have been releasing single after single in anticipation of their new album, Hiding in Plain Sight, set for release in October. The band have succeeded in creating a sound reminiscent of the 60’s and 70’s which they expand upon even more in the new single, Pictures of You’.

The track sounds like a dream of folk-pop as late-night guitar is complemented by the collaborating vocals of Kate Bollinger. Drugdealer frontman, Michael Collins, spoke about the collaboration saying, “my publisher suggested a possible writing session with Kate… we became friends really quickly and ended up writing this song at Spacebomb Studios.”

Michael came up with the music after a night of drinking in Virginia with Kate and her roommate. Kate was taking a nap upstairs in the Studio, so he picked up his guitar and started playing. The smoothness of this track could ease any hangover and leaning into that, upon waking up, Kate and Michael wrote the lyrics and finished the song together. “I’ve always approached lyrics in isolation,” said Kate, “and writing this song showed me a whole other way of making music with someone else”.

Contrary to the hard-hitting funk of the bands previous single, Someone to Love’, ‘Pictures of You’ offers a different side to Drugdealer, one more gentle that promises the new album to be an eclectic mix of what Collins is capable of, both on his own and with others.

Hiding in Plain Sight comes out on 28th October.
