More about: STR4TA
Who cares if the rain is pouring? You can escape it next week at Rough Trade East as SR4TA will be hosting a night of pre Brit-Funk as well as a Q&A in celebration of their new album ‘STR4TASFEAR’. Alongside the album, the duo have also released the single ‘(Bring On The) Bad Weather’ which features vocals from Anushka.
STR4TA is made up of Gilles Peterson & Jean Paul ‘Bluey’ Maunick who’s combined talents bring us a new album with a range of toe-tapping features which is sure to make a lot of people’s top 10 lists this year. “STR$TASFEAR is a continuiation from our first project,” Gilles said, “celebrating breaking Brit-Funk era of the late 70s / early 80s whilst continuing the story of the rise of the drum machine; paying homage to the Acid Jazz and Electric Soul that followed and the evolution that inspired club culture and new Jazz of recent times”.
Throughout the album it’s clear that STR4TA aren’t afraid to wear their influences on their sleeve but that doesn’t mean the end product comes across as imitation in anyway. The newest single ‘(Bring On The) Bad Weather’ is the perfect example of this as it’s a funky and exciting track with smooth vocals that are easy to get on board with, that still sounds refreshing and brand new. It’s a great reflection of everything that ‘STR4TASFEAR’ has to offer.
Laced throughout the album is decades of inspiration brought forward using more modern recording techniques and sounds. It’s a lot to unpack and something that will be fascinating to hear STR4TA talk more about at their event on November 15th.
STR4TA’s new album and tickets to their live performance are available now!
