More about: Noah and the Loners
Music has always been used as a form of expression and one of the things that people are always keen to talk out about is the government. It was seen in the chaotic nature of Free Jazz, in the cold war thanks to the likes of Prince’s ‘Ronnie, Talk to Russia’ and in Britain in the development of bands like the Sex Pistols.
With that in mind, it’s quite surprising (and somewhat frustrating) that during this period of political unrest, war and an increasing wealth divide, there isn’t much music that speaks out about it. Enter: Noah and The Loners. This song embodies a British rage thanks to the sonic impact of distorted guitars and upbeat production paired with vocals laced with accent and anger. It’s a much-needed injection of what the fuck is going in a time where people are asking what the fuck is going on.
The new single, “Protest Anger” is a lot of fun to listen to. Just here in my home it was hard to resist the urge to stand up and punch the air. It’s that great kind of punk, the kind that conveys a message and feels believable but is still a lot of fun. Rich in lyrics but with standout lines that encourage participation like “government cancer” and “stop talking bollocks” this track marks the entrance of some up and comers to keep an eye on.
“’Protest Anger’ is about the rage I felt at the severe mistreatment of peaceful protests over the past few years,” said Noah about the new single, “from women dragged across the floor at a candlelight vigil by police, to a law being passed, essentially banning anti-government protests all together whilst enforcing more ruthless, violent policing.”
I don’t know what happened to protest music. I know it’s still there. Bands like Sleaford Mods and Bob Vylan see to it quite well, but it doesn’t seem to make headlines like it did, and it certainly doesn’t impact the youth like it used to. In such a shit show of a government at the moment, what Noah and The Loners are doing isn’t just fun to listen to and packed with energy, but is 100% necessary.
