Have you seen that outside the window? It’s the sun, unincumbered by clouds, finally allowed to shine. The weather is getting better and with it, we can leave the gloomy tunes behind and focus on stuff more positive, stuff that’s upbeat and warm. The perfect place to start for this is the new single by jnr. ‘I Didn’t Know Myself (Before I Met You)’.
This is summer in song form. The genre bending artist jnr. doesn’t hold back in delivering a pop-infused tune that comes with a warm synth, trickling electronic wind chime effects and attacking bass. The song is laid back but also something that you can be moved by, both literally and figuratively, thanks to the funky nature of it but then also the love inspired lyrics.
“This is my first love song,” said jnr. “It feels like falling in love, for real and for the first time. When you finally realise how another person can make you a better and more sincere person.”
The song is a reflection of jnr’s writing ability but also his capability as a producer and engineer too, given the entire song was both produced and mixed by him. This full creative control means he has permission to dabble with a variety of instruments and genres throughout his music, which is clearly reflected on this new single.
