It’s quite beautiful how music can be used as a means to express emotion and be vulnerable, but then also as a means for people to better comprehend their own vulnerabilities as well. In order for this to happen you need fearless songwriters, people who aren’t afraid to wear their heart on their sleeve and completely lay everything on the line for the sake of their art. One of these songwriters is Gabriela Eva who has recently released the emotional new single ‘Ache’.

‘Ache’ is an incredibly dreamy single, lined with undertones of sadness as Gabriela talks about previous heartaches and the complexities of past relationships. She also talks of hope throughout the song too, making references to “somewhere over the rainbow”, an homage to the potential of ending up somewhere better.

The track begins with a light synth and the sound of wind. After that, plucking guitar comes in along with Gabriela’s angel-like vocals. Her voice really permeates through this track, being soft and warm whilst simultaneously expressing sadness. The track progresses and introduces beats and bass to the point it forms a slightly funk-infused RnB track. The sonic progression of the tune is likely a nod to the emptiness of those heartbreak’s she talks about, before ending up in something better.

“As animals, we are designed to detect threats around us for survival, outside our bodies,” said Gabriela about the new single and subsequent EP under the same name. “Yet, we are still in a thick process of navigating inside ourselves all the time, figuring out why we behave in certain ways and working on rewiring our minds to become the best version of ourselves. I want my music to contribute to all of our journeys and hope for it to be a place for others to feel seen and heard.”
