More about: Morpheus Project
Prog rock isn’t a genre we cover as much as we should on Gigwise, it’s a branch of rock that allows for really atmospheric music, a lot of creativity when it comes to song structure and instrumentation, and is just a lot of fun to listen to in general. If you need a track to get you into it, or are already a fan and want to check out something new, then look no further than the recently released single by Morpheus Project, ‘Steal For What?’
The complex nature of this track is apparent right from the beginning, despite there only being the one instrument at play. It contains a Spanish sounding guitar, its complex plucking pattern really pricks up your ears, letting you know that it’s time to check out something a bit different. After that, the song only builds, and it doesn’t ever let up.
It’s clear creative boundaries don’t exist with Morpheus Project. The song is hard to ever pin down as you listen, sounds are blended, the way lyrics work within the song defy what we’re used to, and that constant plucking pattern in the background adds a further atmospheric layer that, as a listener, we’re not really used to.
The project has been put together by Mustafa Khetty, who commented on the single. “As the sun rises every morning,” he said, “so does the insidious corruption, greed, and moral decay that haunts our world… ‘Steal for What?’ is emotionally charged and is based on personal experience of having experienced blatant theft and the slow process of apathy and enduring delay in the justice system.”
The complex sound of the song matches well with the complex theme which is explored throughout. You will listen a couple of times before you even begin to analyse the lyrics and properly understand the meaning, meaning there is significant replay value in this track which just keeps on giving.
‘Steal For What’ will form part of an upcoming album called ‘On The Edge’ which is going to be released on August 16th.
