Arcade Fire M.I.A, Justice and Working For A Nuclear Free City are four of the ten acts who have made the final ten for this year’s Shortlist Prize.
The ten acts and their albums have been whittled down from a much longer list 54 names called the Long List (well, naturally), and will go head-to-head for the coveted gong next month.
The shortlist prize is widely perceived as the American version of the Mercury Music Prize and recognises acts that have sold less than 500,000 albums over the pond.
Such musical luminaries as Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol and The Killers’ Ronnie Vannucci helped choose the final ten.
The full list is as follows:
Arcade Fire – ‘Neon Bible’
Burial – ‘Untrue’
Feist – ‘The Reminder ‘
Justice – ‘Cross’
LCD Soundsystem – ‘Sound of Silver’
M.I.A. – ‘Kala’
Spoon – ‘Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga’
Stars – ‘In Our Bedroom After the War’
Wilco – ‘Sky Blue Sky’
Working for a Nuclear Free City – ‘Businessmen & Ghosts’
Previous Shortlist winners include Sigur Ros, N*E*R*D, Damien Rice, TV on the Radio, Sufjan Stevens and Cat Power.
