Motley Crue Enjoy Huge Sales Boost From Video Game Rock Band

As they release new song...

Rock Band, the video game that allows users to interact with music using virtual instruments, has proven more popular than iTunes in a special survey.

The test, conducted using a new song by Motley Crue, found that more users downloaded the bands ‘Saints of Los Angeles’ through the video game than iTunes – the only other outlet where it was available.

According to figures from the band's management, Tenth Street Entertainment, the song was downloaded 47,000 times in just one week via Rock Band.

Via iTunes, the song was downloaded just over 10,000 times, Tenth Street Entertainment told Reuters.

The results are surprising given that songs downloaded via the computer game, which was released last Friday (May 23rd), can only be played on the game and can't be transferred to portable devices.

Games like Rock Band have already proved hugely successful in boosting sales of classic songs but this is the first time that industry experts have noticed increased sales of new material.

Gigwise is currently running a competition to win an Xbox 360 and a copy of Rock Band. Click here for details and to stand a chance of winning.
