John Lennon Killer Denied Parole Over Public Safety Concerns

He can reapply again in 2010...

Mark Chapman, the man who killed former Beatle John Lennon, has been denied parole for a fifth time.

The 53-year-old was told yesterday that he must remain in prison for at least two more years because of "concern for the public safety and welfare".

Chapman shot Lennon when he was returning to his apartment in New York with his wife, Yoko Ono, in December 1980.

He told the parole board that he had planned Lennon's killing "with an essentially clear mind".

But they dismissed his attempt, saying his conduct had "precipitated a horrendously tragic event which has impacted many individuals".

Chapman will be allowed to apply for release again in 2010.

  • If he hadn’t killed someone famous he would’’ve been on parole by now. I say let him go.
