- More M For Montreal
Duchess Says were the bad on everyone one’s lips after the first night of the third M For Montreal.
The Montreal based three piece instantly caught the eye because of front woman A-Claude, who’s on stage antics induced an energetic response from local fans including a mosh pit and stage invasion.
The set lurched from thrashy punk to synth induced indie-dance and finished with the brilliant dark pop ‘Black Flag’.
Earlier the night was kicked off by hard rocking francophones Les Dales Hawerchuk and radio friendly Toronto quintet Sweet Thing, who both drew great receptions from those willing to endure the sub zero temperatures to get to the Juste Pour Rire.
The National Parcs impressed and confused equally with their hip hop meets experimental percussive beats with one song involving the smashing of animal bones.
Former Godspeed You! Black Emperor member Roger Tellier Craig then performed with his new band Pas Chic Chic, who mixed some o the GYBE sound-scapes with straight ahead indie rock.
The second Toronto based act of the night, Lioness, then warmed up he crowd for the fireworks to come with a set possessing similar sonic qualities to that of the Gossip.
Tonight (November 21), sees six more bands play for the assembled international delegates and local music fans.
Gigwise is particularly looking forward to seeing Winter Gloves and Woodhands plus new We Are Wolves side project CLAASS.
