Buffalo Springfield Drummer Dewey Martin Dies

Dewey Martin, drummer for Buffalo Springfield, has died in California. He was 68.

The drummer, who helped pace the band’s pioneering rock sound, is thought to have died from natural causes.

His body was discovered by his roommate in an apartment in Van Nuys on February 1st.

Martin formed Buffalo Springfield alongside Neil Young, Stephen Stills, Bruce Palmer and Richie Furay in 1966.

The band were heralded for their experimental use of country, rock and folk music.

But their success, never outmatched by debut single ‘For What It’s Worth’, was short-lived. They disbanded in 1968 after just three albums.

Despite little commercial success, the group were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.

Martin, who was born on September 30th, 1940, failed on a number of attempts to revive the band under the name New Buffalo Springfield.
