Michael Jackson's family are still awaiting the return of the star's brain, it has emerged.
Doctors are still running toxicology tests on the brain to try and ascertain how Jackson died.
Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said: "As soon as we are done with the brain, we will return it. There is a whole series of tests that will be done."
Jackson's cause of death has been listed as “deferred” pending the test results, which could take up to six weeks.
A post-mortem carried out on June 26 – the day after the star died – found no evidence of foul play or external trauma.
The possible delay in the return of Jackson's brain has heightened speculation over when – and where – the singer will be buried.
Three of Jackson's brothers are reported to have launched a bid for the singer to be returned to his former Neverland home in Santa Barbara, California.
According to ABC, the brothers want to create a state-sanctioned burial ground at the ranch, which was Jackson's signature home until he was forced to surrender the property in 2008.
Ed Winter said he was unaware of the family's plans for the body, but added: "The last I heard, they are not burying the body yet.”
As previously reported on Gigwise, Jackson's life was remembered at a ceremony in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
The star died suddenly on June 25 following a suspected heart attack at his rented home in Holmby Hills, Hollywood. He as 50.
