Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty may be privately prosecuted over the death of a man who died after falling from a balcony.
Mark Blanco was found dead after falling from a first floor balcony at a flat in East London in 2006.
The 30-year-old had been attending a party thrown by Paul Roundhill, a friend of the Libertines star, and at which Doherty and his minder Johnny Jeannevol had also been present.
His body was found shortly after an altercation with Doherty and his two friends. CCTV footage allegedly shows the singer stepping over the dead body.
Police are expected to tell Blanco’s family this week whether they believe the investigation will bring any changes against the three.
But, according to The Observer, Blanco’s family, who have become frustrated with the inquiry, will proceed with a private prosecution if no charges are brought.
Michael Wolkind QC, who is representing the Blanco family, said: "Throughout their investigations, the police have suffered a severe allergy to finding crime, even though it is clear Mark was unlawfully killed.”
Blanco’s mother Shiela said the investigation had put strain on their family. Her husband has suffered two heart attacks since his son’s death.
Roundhill, Doherty and Jeannevol have denied any wrongdoing.
