George Michael: I Want New Album To Help Gay Children

George Michael has said his next dance-inspired studio album will help gay children.

The former Wham! star said the as-yet-untitled house record would be a “gay collective”, featuring songs sung by himself and other artists.

Appearing at a press conference in London today (May 11), Michael told reporters he wanted the album to repair the “damage” his public troubles had caused the gay community.

“I have a serious problem with the fact that every time I made a big mistake, or every time I would let myself down, I felt that I was letting gay young kids down because they would then witness the homophobia that was thrown at me and the wording of that homophobia,” he said.

“I like to think that life is a balance, so that whenever there's something good you can do with it. So I have some plans to try and do things to help gay children.

“I think we're notoriously bad as a community at helping our own when it comes to children because we don't have our own children.”

Michael failed to explain his exact plans for the record, which will be the follow-up to 'Songs From The Last Century'.

Michael was appearing at the Royal Opera House to launch his Symphonica: The Orchestral European tour, which is set to get under way later this year.
