The release of Charlie Simpson's debut album 'Young Pilgrim' next week maybe delayed following a fire at the distribution factory in London where stocks of the record were being kept.
The three-storey warehouse in Enfield caught fire overnight in an area of the capital which has seen widespread rioting and looting.
The building is Sony Corp's sole distribution base in the UK and is also home to PIAS Distribution, which works closely with independent record labels, including the one behind Simpson's album.
The fire has cast doubt over whether 'Young Pilgrim' will be released on Monday (August 15) as schedueled.
On Twitter, Simpson said: “For all those who have been asking about the release date of Young Pilgrim, we are working really hard to get this sorted as quickly as possible and will have a full update for you by the end of the day.”
He added: “My thoughts are with all those who work at PIAS at this difficult time. They are an invaluable part of independent music in this country. Very sad day.”
Although the extent of the damage is currently unclear, there are already fears about the possible implications the fire could have on the independent music industry in the UK.
In a statement, PIAS said they were currently “implementing their emergency plans”.
Sony has already warned that the fire will likely lead to a delay in album and DVD deliveries.
