U2 started the UK leg of their 'Vertigo' Tour last night to a sell out crowd of over 50,000 at the City of Manchester Stadium.
Referring to the Madchester crowd, Bono said "so this is the City that taught the white man to dance"...
After blasting through old classics like 'Sunday Bloody Sunday', it wasn't long before Bono made reference to the latest developments surrounding Live 8. "Thank you Gordon Brown, and thanks to your Prime Minister" and added "Poverty - it's history!" referring to the G8's latest pledge regarding third world dept, as previously reported by Gigwise.
After nearly 2 hours, the show ended as it started with a second helping of 'Vertigo'. U2 appear in Manchester again tonight Wed 15th June, and then Twickenham 18th & 19th, Glasgow 21st and ending in Cardiff on 29th.
