The former director of 'Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark' has accused the U2 frontman of 'severely hampering' the show's progress.

Julie Tymor, who stepped down from her role following ongoing problems with the production last year, has said that Bono and The Edge were "frequently distracted" from their duties scoring the show – with Bono turning up drunk to important meetings.

In an email composed by Ms Taymor's writing partner, Glen Berger it stated: "He (Bono) showed up in our room with Christy Turlington and a couple other supermodels and he had already had a few beers, rendering him useless."

'So the producers postponed the meeting till the next afternoon - but that meeting never happened.'

The musical had been hit by a series of delays caused by technical and financial problems, and finally opened last year.

The production features a soundtrack by U2's Bono and The Edge.

Following Taymor's departure, Playwright and Spider-Man comic book writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa was brought on board to assist the production.
