Coventry’s Godiva Festival has been cancelled due to pouring rain and freak weather conditions.

Godiva was due to take place this weekend, but was cancelled this morning (June 29) as organisers cited “devastating weather conditions.”

According to local weather reports, freak weather conditions such as thunderstorms and large hailstones hit the festival’s site yesterday with over 30mm of rain falling in three hours.

The festival organisers tweeted about the festival sadly having to be cancelled but added that the Olympic torch relay will still take place. They wrote: “Godiva 2012 has been cancelled. Really sorry, but finally beaten by devastating weather. Torch Relay event is still on.”

The festival is free and hosted by Coventry Council, and was going to be headlined by Echo and the Bunnymen, Maroon Town and Cast. Last Sunday (June 24), Paul Weller's Live From Jodrell Bank was also cancelled after heavy rainfall made the site unsafe to the public.
