Robin Thicke has admitted that he exaggerated his role in the recording of 'Blurred Lines' and that he was high on vicodin and alcohol during the session.

Continuing a truly terrible 2014 for the R&B lothario, Thicke is currently locked in a legal case regarding whether Blurred Lines plagiarises Marvin Gaye's 'Got To Give It Up'. As revealed by the Hollywood Reporter, Thicke's deposition in April sees him shift responsiblility for the track from the original three writers - Thicke, Pharrell Williams and TI - to claim Williams was solely responsible.

"I was high on Vicodin and alcohol when I showed up at the studio," Thicke explains. "I wanted to be more involved than I actually was by the time, nine months later, it became a huge hit and I wanted credit." He also absolves himself of any authorship: "[The] reality is, is that Pharrell had the beat and he wrote almost every single part of the song."

Thicke went on to downplay every part of his involvement  on the day of the studio session: "I walked in while he was almost finished with the music. So it would — he was, I'd say — I'd say 75 per cent of the it was already done when I walked in and he was finishing it and going 'Hey, hey, hey' or something like that. Like I said, I was drunk."

The trial is due to begin in February. As Mashable reports, during the testimony Thicke also mentions the breakdown of his marriage. When questioned "Do you consider yourself an honest person?" Thicke's response is, "No. That's why I'm separated".

This deposition runs completely contrary to what Thicke has told interviewers. He told US GQ of the conception of 'Blurred Lines' "Pharrell and I were in the studio and I told him that one of my favorite songs of all time was Marvin Gaye's 'Got to Give It Up.' I was like, 'Damn, we should make something like that, something with that groove.' Then he started playing a little something and we literally wrote the song in about a half hour and recorded."

Robin Thicke's latest album Paula sold less than 600 copies in its first week of release in the UK and less than 100 in Australia.
