Damien Rice has revealed what it was like to work with legendary music producer Rick Rubin in a new interview with Billboard.
Speaking about the difficulties of recording after the departure of long-time collaborator and ex-girlfriend Lisa Hannigan, Damien said: "Rick's approach was fluid when I was stuck, and solid when I needed some tying down. A kite needs to be tied down in order to fly. I learned how important restrictions can sometimes be in order to experience freedom."

He added: "The best restriction I learned was getting into the habit of doing something, even if I didn't feel like it, instead of running away from it. Sometimes good work needs to be earned and when you can overcome yourself, the muse notices and celebrates."
Prior to the release of this year's 'My Favourite Faded Fantasy', Rice hadn't released an album for eight years. Explaining his decision to team up with the mighty Rubin, the Irish singer-songwriter said: "for some reason I thought I would feel comfortable being open, being me and being vulnerable with Rick."
Damien Rice's 'My Favourite Faded Fantasy' is out now.
