Green Day, Lou Reed, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and Ringo Starr are leading the 2015 Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame additions.

Joining them on the list of acts of who will be inducted next April are Bill Wothers, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Ringo Starr will be given the Award For Musical Excellence and 1950s group the "5" Royales will get the Early Influence Award.

The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame only accepts inductees 25 years after the release of their first record. With Green Day's 1,000 Hours EP being released in 1989 they are now eligible to join the coveted list of famous bands.

However, eligible acts The Smiths, Nine Inch Nails, Kraftwerk and NWA have not been allowed to enter.

"I had to go for a walk when I heard the news," said Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong. "We're in incredible company and I'm still trying to make sense of this. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has always held something special for me because my heroes were in there. This is a great time for us to sort of reflect and look back with gratitude."

The show will take place at Cleveland's Public Hall on 18 April, 2015 with tickets going on sale to the general public on Thursday 18 December.
