N.E.R.D have released their first single in four years, 'Squeeze Me'. Check out the song below.

The Neptunes off-shoot, which includes Pharrell Williams, Chad Hugo and Shay Haley, recorded the track as part of the forthcoming Spongebob Squarepants film soundtrack, set for release on 28 January.

'Squeeze Me' marks N.E.R.D.'s first recording together since they released their fourth LP Nothing in 2010.

The bouncy, tropical piece lends more to Williams' chart-friendly 'Happy' than their more raunchy hits like 'She Wants To Move' and 'Lapdance', although that's no doubt due to the film's young target audience.

Speaking about the new track to Variety, Hugo compared ‘Squeeze Me’ to The Beatles’ ‘Yellow Submarine’. “We’re trying not to think too much in a cartoon sense, but more just like a psychedelic, otherworldly type of thing,” Hugo said. “If you want to draw a parallel, maybe think of what the Beatles did with ‘Yellow Submarine’.”

A fifth N.E.R.D album is rumoured to be in the works with Williams stating at a solo concert earlier this year, "you're gonna like this shit we're gonna release" but concrete details are yet to emerge.
