More about: Jon Hopkins
Mercury Prize nominee and electronica pioneer Jon Hopkins is the next artist to create a Late Night Tales compilation, featuring tracks by David Holmes, Four Tet and Nils Frahm.
Joinging the likes of Bonobo, MGMT, Metronomy and Belle & Sebastian, Hopkins addition to Late Night Tales will be released on 1 March. As someone as comfortable playing a peak time Boiler Room set as being sat at a grand piano, Hopkins is ideally suited to the esoteric nature of the series, giving him free range to include an impressive range of genres which have influenced his own music.

The compilation includes artists like Darkstar and Four Tet, featuring eloquent piano from artists like Nils Frahm and Hopkins himself (on a cover of Yeasayer's 'I Remember') alongside ambient electronica like Jónsi & Alex and Helios. There are one or two tracks which bring in more of a spry beat, like Bibio's 'Down to the Sound' or Letherette's 'After Dawn'.

Hopkins said of the album, 'I chose tracks not just because they have been important to me but because of how they sit together, putting as much thought into the transitions and overall narrative as I did into the track choices. I mixed by key and by texture more than anything else, using original sound design, pivot notes, and often recording new synth or piano parts to link things together in a way that flows as naturally as possible. I hope you enjoy it.'
Jon Hopkins will play the last date of his Immunity tour at Brixton Academy on 24 April, which if the other dates in the tour are anything to go by, promises to be spectacular. Buy tickets here.
