Disco legend Nile Rodgers has shared a further insight into his new album About Time, including details of the first new single and video.
Rodgers explains that 'About Time' has a specific concept, "as with all Chic albums". He explains on his website: "Four years ago I was stricken with very aggressive cancer and I wasn't sure how much time I had left. I decided the album's concept would be about time and I'd feature as many people from the lifespan of Chic that I could on it."
He also revealed that he is has filming a video with Inez & Vinoodh, the photography duo favoured by Bjork, Kanye West and Madonna. It will also star a Victoria's Secret model and current US Vogue cover star.
"We've just shot the video for "I'll Be There" with Inez & Vinoodh, on the first day of Fashion Week NYC. Perfect timing for a group called CHIC" says Rodgers. "It's also perfect that we've got one of the hottest and coolest supermodels in the world to star in the video. Karlie Kloss. The first thing she said when we met was, 'Diana Ross' album Diana is my favorite record in the world.' I knew we'd found our R&B loving disco girl."
Rodgers has clearly thought carefully about every facet of the new album, as even the date of the first single's release is significant to him. He has revealed that the first single will drop on 20 March, and explains that this is the date of the "vernal equinox - when day and night are of equal length. But in parts of the Northern Hemisphere, there will also be a total solar eclipse... so I'll be releasing the record at the exact start of that celestial event".
Rodgers has also detailed that he will be performing "a series of concerts in England" after the release of the single. The new materal will be played in the UK before anywhere else. Rodgers said: “Our fans in the UK are some of the greatest in the world so we’re really excited to bring them our new single first...and that’s why we’re coming over to play these live shows next month! See you there!"
The legendary songwriter and guitarist will kick off the tour in London and play dates in Leeds, Glasgow, Manchester and Birmingham. For tickets and more information, click here.
