Heather Mills: 'Half of the kids don't know who Paul McCartney is'

Heather Mills has played down the significance of her ex-husband Paul McCartney in a new interview, saying, "Half of the kids don't even know who he is."

The environmentalist and Alpine ski racer was married to the Beatles musician between 2002 and 2008, and the couple had one daughter together. Following the pair's high-profile divorce, which involved lengthy disputes over money, Mills received a significant amount of criticism - at one point accusing the media of giving her "worse press than a paedophile or a murderer."

In an interview with RTE's The Late Late Show this weekend, Mills responded to host Ryan Tubridy mentioning McCartney by saying, "I don't want this interview to be all about Paul, you know. That umbilical cord was broken, he's married someone else. I agreed to come on the show because it wasn't all about Paul[...] It's so boring, honestly, if you want me to fall asleep... If you had a pan of soup I'd put my head in it."

When the host suggested that people were more interested in talking about McCartney than she'd admit, she said, "No, they're not, that's the thing. If I go down the street all I get is kids coming up to me - half of them don't even know who he is. That's why he's got to do songs with Rihanna and Kanye West, so people remember."

She continued, "He is just someone I fell in love with, who to me was a normal guy that happened to write a few cool songs in the '60s - and a few in the '70s. It was just someone I fell in love with... You fall in love, get married, you sometimes then go, 'Oh my god, this was completely wrong', and you wake up and you move on."
