Graham Coxon has revealed that Blur went for professional counselling to combat internal tensions in the band.
Speaking in the latest issue of Mojo, the Blur guitarist revealed that the problems that demanded counselling had stemmed from his dismissal from the group in 2002.
Coxon said: “Although we shoved it all aside when we got back together, I realised that passions were still slightly high about it all,” he says. “Y’know, in those years since [he left in 2002], I probably said a few stupid things in the press – because the circumstances of why weren’t together as a four-piece were quite unclear. We’d met a couple of times – one was some mediation thing where we had to go over stuff that was difficult… We were all raw and hurt by it, for quite a while.”
“To be honest, the last couple of years when I was in Blur it wasn’t like we were good friends, like we could ring each other up. Everybody was going through management and we all had our own lives, our own problems.”
Coxon has been doing his fair share of sharing personal details involved with the band recently, having spoken out about his relationship with Damon Albarn and the rest of the group. The band, who are gearing up to release their first album in over a decade, have often enjoyed a tumultuous relationship - but Coxon says that making new LP The Magic Whip brought them closer together.
Blur recently released the third track from their new album The Magic Whip. 'Lonesome Street' followed 'Go Out' and 'There Are Too Many Of Us' are all taken from their first album in 12 years.
