Hanni El Khatib has covered D'Angelo's sublime "Devil's Pie" for Record Store Day. Listen below.
Covering a track as masterful as "Devil's Pie" is never going to be easy, but San Franciscan rocker Khatib does enough to make the track his own. The swaggering, cocksure bass line from D'Angelo's original is altered slightly here, but it's still (more or less) present on Khatib's version. Khatib replaces D'Angelo's falsetto with his own soulful, reverb-heavy vocals and places a sparse, high-pitched guitar line and string section to boot.
