Frances Bean Cobain gave a surprise speech at the Hollywood screening of Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, stating that her father would have been “really proud” of the film.
At the Tuesday night screening at the Egyptian Theater, director Brett Morgen was introducing the film when Frances Bean, who served as the executive producer on the project, asked if she could also speak to the audience.
“The reason I’ve been able to watch it six times is because of the film Brett made,” Frances Bean told the crowd, as Yahoo reports.
“I didn’t know Kurt,” she continued, adding that she feels “very very strongly” that he would have been happy with the documentary.
“He was a human being,” she said. “And I think that’s been lost within the romanticism and the myth of him and his story. What this movie will provide, hopefully, is a real understanding of who he was. And I feel like he’d be really proud to have this movie made about him. So I’d like to thank Brett a lot.”
Frances Bean recently opened up to Rolling Stone, revealing that she is not really a Nirvana fan. She also called Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck “emotional journalism”, adding that “It's the closest thing to having Kurt tell his own story in his own words – by his own aesthetic, his own perception of the world. It paints a portrait of a man attempting to cope with being a human.”

Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck will officially air on HBO on May 4 and is currently being screened in cinemas. It will also be available as digital download on April 24 and on DVD and Blu-ray from April 27.
