Vic Mensa has revealed that he has never before heard U2’s music, although after being played ‘Vertigo’, he actually quite liked them.
In a new interview with Grantland, Mensa was discussing how when U2’s album showed up on his iTunes, he “felt way invaded”.
“At first I didn’t think anything of it on my phone, because I don’t even know how to sync my phone to my computer,” he said. “But then I saw a tweet, though, like, ‘That’s crazy.’ They just showed the pictures that said that Apple put U2’s album on this many billion people’s phones, and said, ‘Check your shit right now.’ I checked, and I was like ‘Damn, they really did put this shit on my phone.’”
He went on to say that the band “spammed everybody”, and that he didn’t even know what the band sounded like, asking “What’s U2’s biggest song?”.
“I don’t know any of this shit,” he continued. “I feel like I should know what the fuck U2 sounds like. I wonder if they were any good back in the day. They’re way bigger than any single song they’ve ever made. I wonder if I was white, I would know it."
But after being played their song ‘Vertigo’, Mensa stated: “Oh, that’s so raw. That’s ill.”
Earlier this month, Vic Mensa shared new track ‘U Mad’, which features Kanye West. He had previously appeared on West’s song ‘Wolves’, which also features Sia.
