It's not sexy - just REALLY embarrassing

American R&B artist Miguel recently took to the stage while in Stockholm to simulate a graphic sex act - and he is in no way the first performer to do so. No, artists have been pretending to have sex on stage for years, for reasons that we're not altogether sure about.

Some stars choose the risky path of grinding up against fans, while others choose to go it alone with a little self-love - Madonna, we're looking at you, here. And there's all sorts of different ways to go about it; from Nicki Minaj's, uh, prop, to Miguel's invisible friend, there's no hard and fast rule when it comes to shocking people on stage.

So we've rounded up 10 stars who aren't afraid to express themselves on stage, from the sublime to the ridiculous. Check them out here.

  • R&B singer-songwriter Miguel is no stranger to sex - most of his songs revolve around it, in fact - but this is the first time he's chosen to simulate a sex act on stage. While performing in Sweden, Miguel took the opportunity to show off his sex skills. Sadly, it turned out more awkward than arousing.

  • Marilyn Manson reportedly tea-bagged a security guard on stage during a concert. If you don't know what that means, don't Google it - it basically means that Manson shoved his testicles on the guy's face. He later appeared in court when the security guard sued him, and Manson had to defend himself on charges of grinding his genitals on security staff.

  • American singer-songwriter John Legend slow danced with a fan in Amsterdam, and got pretty up close and personal - so much so that, when the dance was over, Legend appeared to have an erection. The incident was captured on video by fans and is now visible for everyone to see - much like what Legend had in his pants.

  • While on his Passion, Pain & Pleasure tour - yes, that's what it was actually called - Trey Songz took it upon himself to give a fan a massage on stage before simulating sex with her. He was so proud of it that a video was then posted on his official website, so if you always wanted to see Songz in action, well... there's your chance.

  • Rihanna is no stranger to simulating sex on stage, particularly during the raunchy 'S&M'. After coming under fire for choosing a 60 year old man to join her in Barbados, Rihanna later pulled a girl on stage - as you can see above. Rihanna has a reputation for being sexual, so we don't think anyone was surprised by her on stage antics.

  • Akon came under fire in April 2007 when he simulated very energetic sex on stage with a fan - who turned out to be 15. Although Akon was performing in a 21 club and so had reason to believe the girl was overage, he still came under fire for the actions, which were filmed by his crew and posted online. He was criticised for degrading women, and Verizon decided not to sponsor his upcoming tour.

  • Nicki Minaj whipped out a dildo while on stage at the Staples Centre - and makes a regular habit of it. Despite coming under fire for her actions, Nicki ignores critics and continues to use it - usually while performing 'Did It On 'Em' and simulating sex with her female dancers. Nicki is known for her attempts to shock, leaving us we're a little worried as to what she'll possibly do next.

  • Usher is another R&B star who enjoys simulating sex on stage with his female fans. During his OMG Tour, Usher would bring a fan on stage and simulate sex with her on the waiting sofa - in front of the entire audience.

  • During Madonna's Blonde Ambition tour in 1990, Madonna would simulate masturbation during the performance of 'Like A Virgin'. This led to Toronto officials threatening to arrest her unless she removed the sequence from her act, and in Italy, the Pope called for a boycott of her performances. In 2013, it's easy to tell that didn't stop her - Madonna is still going strong.

  • Adam Lambert famously scandalised the American people when he simulated receiving oral sex from a male dancer at the televised American Music Awards. He told Rolling Stone, "Female performers have been doing this for years - pushing the envelope about sexuality - and the minute a man does it, everybody freaks out. We're in 2009 - it's time to take risks, be a little more brave, time to open people's eyes and if it offends them, then maybe I'm not for them. My goal was not to piss people off, it was to promote freedom of expression and artistic freedom."

  • ...But when it comes to taking things far too far, we have to US rapper Danny Brown, who was given oral sex on stage during a gig in Minneapolis. The rapper continued the performance however, proudly declaring that he never missed a beat. Support act and close friend Kitty Pryde later claimed that the incident was sexual abuse - the girl abusing Brown.
